Seiji Ozawa becomes music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

One of the most accessible, colorful, and popular music directors of the orchestra, he becomes the longest tenured music director in BSO history. He is succeeded by James Levine in 2004, and Andris Nelsons in 2011.
